Merry Christmas from the Standages!

Christmas Photo

We can hardly believe another year has come and gone. This time last year, we were just poor college students, struggling to balance employment and education and church responsibilities. Things have changed so much since then...except that we're still poor college students, and still balancing employment and education and church! We've accepted the fact that some things never change, and we're doing our best to enjoy the ride.

Undoubtedly, the most significant event in our family's life this year was the arrival of Heather Breanne Standage. She was born on March 5th and measured 7lbs 6oz, 20in. Her growth since then has been amazing, and she's managed to keep in the 90th percentile and above for weight and head size. At her 9 month checkup, she was 23.25lbs, and 28in. Her head circumference is still off the charts, and we are getting really tired of telling the doctor that Heather's head size should be attributed to her ginormous Standage brains. We actually all had to go in and get our head circumferences measured to prove it! Heather is always happy and brings a special spirit into our home. We look forward to growing with her in the years to come.

Stephanie gave up her employment last December to prepare for life as a full-time mom. However, she has continued to succeed in her studies. This semester she is doing research with a professor studying relationship dynamics as couples progress from dating to marriage. She's humble about it, but she is obviously one of her professor's favorite students. Stephanie will be graduating in April of this coming year with a degree in Home and Family Living and a minor in Music. She loves being a mommy, and can't wait until she can devote all of her time to being a wife and mother.

Daniel has had some wonderful experiences this last year. In April, he was called as a counselor in the bishopric in our ward--he claims somebody must have told them he was sleeping in on Sundays! He has enjoyed serving in the bishopric. Daniel also went on two business trips over the summer (one to Piscataway, NJ and one to Durham, NC) and gained some valuable experience in preparation for graduate school. Currently, Daniel is finishing up his graduate school applications and trying to put the finishing touches on his Honors thesis and portfolio. He will graduate in April (or June) with a degree in Bioinformatics and minors in Mathematics and Computer Science. Daniel is looking forward to the summer when he can spend more time with his two favorite girls.

We are so blessed to have such wonderful friends and family. We hope this has been a good year for you, and we hope you have a special Christmas Season. In an effort to keep us focused on Christ through the Holiday Season, we have taken the challenge to read The Living Christ individually every day throughout the month of December. This has deepened our understanding and appreciation for the sacrifice Christ made for everyone who has ever lived or will live on the earth. We hope that the hustle and bustle of the Season will not distract you from the true meaning of Christmas. We love you all and can't wait until we see you again!

Love, Daniel Stephanie and Heather
